SHORT LAB

Welcome to the Short Research Group at the University of Kansas. We are a passionate group of evolutionary biologists with a focus on insects, biodiversity, and conservation. We are part of the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, the Biodiversity Institute, and the Molecular Genetics Lab.

Research by members of our group centers broadly on the evolution, systematics, and distribution of insects, with a distinctly ecological flavor. Although our taxa, systems, and interests vary, most of our work is centered around two broad themes: (1) Evolutionary biology of aquatic beetles, and (2) Biogeography and conservation biology of the Neotropics.

Among other ongoing projects, the Lab is heavily involved with biodiversity surveys in northern South America (Brazil, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname). We are also particularly interested in the pattern and process of ecological and life-history shifts.
